LED Party Dress

Description

After working on Starry outfits this summer with the Angel Hearts girls, I wanted to continue using what I learned and make a party dress I could wear for the various holiday events this year. Instead of using conductive thread, I used a TechSpray de-soldering wick that my dad got from work and I soldered my LEDs directly to the points in a parallel circuit. The program is the same marquee pattern as Starry, just I used 3 lines instead of 4. Again, I bought a LilyPad from SparkFun to control the chasing light pattern. Instead of using cabochons with glitter, I ordered a pack of 25mm faceted gems, since I liked how the light reflected in a kaleidoscopic design. At first I wanted to go for a full rainbow of LEDs, but I learned that I would have to deal with different voltage ranges, so I narrowed it down to the colors I liked best. I bought my LEDs from microtivity on Amazon. For the power source, I am using a 800mA 8V Lithium Ion Battery donated from a friend that uses them for remote control planes. But the low power it has now is perfect for lighting up simple LEDs. ^__^
Thanks to WinterWish for recording the green screen test dance video!!

Dress made from a Simplicity prom dress pattern. White casa collection matte crepe from JoAnns and Sherpa Fur for the trim under the LEDs. I hand-sew all the trim to the dress to get the fluid-look of the bubble dress. I used the drill press I bought for the Starry project to drill small holes into...(Read More) about 80 gems so the LEDs would fit and shine onto the gem's pattern. Flower is interchangeable to a blue daisy or pink dahlia. Battery pack, driver, and controller covered with silver glitter craft foam.
